Soegijapranata Catholic University (SCU), founded in 1964, is a private university located in Semarang, a metropolitan area on the north coast of Central Java. Known as the ‘Purple Campus’, SCU offers 28 study programs across 10 faculty departments and serves students from throughout Indonesia. The motto of the university is Talenta Pro Patria et Humanitate or Talent for the Homeland and Humanity, a motto extracted from the message of Mgr Albertus Soegijapranata, founder of the university and prominent figure in Indonesian national history.

To this end, the university has an extensive network of cooperation and talent sharing, both at home, such as with Nationwide University Network in Indonesia, and also abroad through the participation with the Association of Southeast Asia Catholic Universities, and the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia.

To enrich students’ academic experience, SCU has embraced many digital innovations. These applications have become essential as the pandemic has limited on-campus access. Applications include (but are not limited to):

  • ORI (Online Reference Information): an application used to set appointments with librarians and to arrange digital referral services. The app is equipped with chat and forum functions.
  • Book Shelf Digital: an application developed to digitally catalog and shelf library holdings.
  • Digital Learning Studio: a studio space dedicated for lecture capture and MOOCs.
  • Learning Technology Simulator: an application with VR technology containing educational games to encourage independent learning.
